An Original Leaf from La Biblia "The Bear Bible" - 1622 Edition

Translated by: Casssiodoro de Reina

Text:

The Bible That Set Spanish SPeaking People Free!

Affectionately known as the Bear Bible

This Original leaf is taken from the 1622 Edition of the Spanish Bible translated by Cassiodoro de Reina. His First Edition was printed in Basle Sqitzerland in the year of 1559.

Cassiodoro was a monk who fled the persecution of the Spanish Inquisition by escaping from the Convent of San Isidoro in Seville Spain in 1557.

This was truly a Protestant Bible.

Unlike previous translation attempts which were based on the Latin Vulgate of the Roman Catholic Church, this version was based on the Reformation Text derived from the original Greek and Hebrew languages.

This Edition is sometimes referred to as "The Bear Bible" because of the Bear Device used on the title page. No doubt the Bear seeking honey seen on the title page in an allusion to Psalm 19:9-10: "The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: the judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. more to be desired are they to be than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb..."

Long oppressed bu the Inquisition of Rome, The Spanish people were finally given the true Bible in their own language.

At last, the Glorious Gospel proclaiming salvation through Christ alone as now with-in reach of the common man!
